Attorney David Morain of Jefferson was sworn in as Greene County magistrate at a small ceremony Friday, July 1. He was appointed following the retirement of Rita Pedersen from the magistrate bench, a position from which she served the county for 22 years.

Morain graduated from Jefferson-Scranton High School from 1999, from Simpson College in 2003, and from Drake University College of Law in 2006. He was admitted to the Iowa Bar in 2006.

He returned to Jefferson and is an associate at Hoyt Law Firm PC.

“I’m really pleased to be able to serve as magistrate judge of Greene County,” Morain said. “It’s really the best of both worlds. I’ll continue to be able to assist clients in private practice while meeting new challenges on the bench.”

In Iowa, magistrates are appointed by a committee composed of members of the legal profession and citizens. The Honorable William C. Ostlund, attorneys Robert Horak and Vicki Copeland, and Craig Marquardt, Jenny Wessling and Jerry Boyd comprise the Greene County judicial magistrate appointing committee.
